National Pet Dental Health Month

Here we are, the last day of February, which is National Pet Dental Health Month. You all know how I love my Greenies! The nice people at Greenies sent me a message about National Pet Dental Health Month, the American Animal Hospital Association's (AAHA) Helping Pets Fund and the Veterinary Oral Health Council (VOHC). The VOHC is similar to the American Dental Association, but for pets. If you see their seal on a pet dental health product, you know it's been proven effective at breaking down plaque and tartar from your pet's teeth.

AAHA's Helping Pets Fund is a charitable organization that provides financial support for sick or injured pets who need veterinary care. Greenies and AAHA are teaming up to raise awareness about pet dental health and to raise money for the Helping Pets Fund. To help their effort, I want to tell you my dental health story.

I had a routine dental cleaning last year. Everything turned out fine with my pearly whites. Mom would occasionally brush my teeth, but I hated to have it done, so she didn't do it very often. I got my Feline Greenies dental treats every day, but that was about it as far as caring for my teeth.

Today I went in for another annual dental cleaning. Things didn't turn out quite as good as they did last year. The V-E-T had to pull five of my toofers!! Mom is feeling pretty bad that she didn't brush my teeth more often. Look at what I went through today:

First off, I was deprived of food all night long.

No matter how I begged this morning, Mom wouldn't feed me.

This is the last picture of my full smile.

Soon I was loaded up into the dreaded cat carrier.

When I finally made it home 11 hours later, I had a shaved patch on my leg where they stuck the medicine.

Please make sure your humans are taking care of your toofers! Have your regular dental cleanings, but look for products with the VOHC seal on them too!

My First Gotcha Day

Today has been a special day for me and Mom. It's the anniversary of the day she adopted me from Wayside Waifs last year-my Gotcha Day! What a wonderful year it has been!

I was awfully lonely those days I spent in the hug room at Wayside. They were made a bit better by some of the wonderful people there like Sharon the adoption counselor and Cat the volunteer. It got even better the day I met Mom! She took me to my forever home two days after we met and I've been living the dream ever since.

Every day with Mom is nice. She loves on me and lets me know I'm safe and secure. I get to go anywhere I want (except the counters, but most of the time she doesn't know I've been up there) and can nap the day away while she works. She keeps my bowl full of kibble and gives me treats.

Today was extra special. Mom gave me my usual morning treats, then I went back to bed to sleep late with Dad. One of my favorite activities is to sit on the edge of the tub while Mom takes a bath-I got to do that today as well! We played a brief game of "Kitty Monster Under the Sheets" then I spent most of the day snoozing under Mom's electric blanket on the couch. She hung out there with me all day!
After Mom and Dad had dinner, I got a special meal of my own-canned food! I love it when I get the wet stuff. I lick all the juice away before I eat any of the meat. It is soooo nommy!

My wish is that every animal out there finds a purrfect forever home like I did so they can celebrate their own Gotcha Day!

Readpawty Review: Dog On It by Spencer Quinn

For this month's #readpawty I read "Dog On It" by Spencer Quinn. It is part of the Chet and Bernie mystery series. Bernie is the human and Chet is the dog; together they are the Little Detective Agency.

Bernie and Chet get a job to find a missing teenage girl. Both of them have ways of figuring out the case, but since humans don't communicate very well with animals, they can't put all the pieces of the puzzle together right away. Eventually, Bernie finds the missing girl (waaaay after Chet found her) and the case is closed!

Chet isn't the brightest dog-he's certainly no Enzo!-but he's smart enough to figure out who the bad guys are. He isn't too fond of cats, which is a problem for me, but I didn't mind reading about him. In fact, he's got his own blog, too. You should check it out!
