Pet Emergency Kit

In my previous blog post about the fire, I mentioned the pet emergency kit Mom has for me. I was very grateful that Mom had made it for me because it had all kinds of stuff in it that I needed.

For this post, Mom did a video showing everything that she keeps in my emergency kit (except she left out the Greenies, I've since reminded her and she has added a bag to the kit!).

Take it away, Mom!

Here are the items you need in a pet emergency kit (for cats):
  • Food (Dry & Wet)/Lid for cans/Spoon
  • Water
  • Bowls
  • Treats
  • Copies of medical records
  • Pictures of your pet AND of you WITH your pet
  • Blanket
  • Toys
  • Litter/Box/Scoop/Plastic liner
  • Collar/Harness/Leash/Tags
Please, please, please have your human make a pet emergency kit for you! You just never know what might happen when you will need it. Remember to keep it in a handy location too!

  1. Dear Amy and Sebastian and family,

Thank you for your posting. It has such great ideas and you surely never know when something can happen. I sure hope you and the crew are doing well.

We live through hurricane season here in S . Florida. I usually throw extra supplies in the spare bathroom , which is an indoor room with no windows.

I have a big dog crate which is huge which would hold our 5 cats in it in an emergency.

You did give some great ideas. Thank you.

    1. Oh, yes, during severe weather here in Kansas, Mom keeps a pair of tennis shoes in the bathroom. A huge crate for multiple kitties is a great idea!

    1. Not sure what happened to my comment but like the idea of a blanket or something with your pets scent on it. CJ slept on my sweatshirt for weeks after the fire because it was the only thing I had left that was familiar to him.

  6. Thank you for sharing Amy. A pet emergency kit is something I've meaning to do, but I haven't done it yet. Like you, I've thought about severe storms, flooding, etc. - but certainly fire is another reason to keep an pet emergency kit on hand. So glad to hear you are all doing well in your new home.

  7. This is such a wonderful post Amy and so very helpful. Right after your fire, M made up one for me too. Now she can refine it and add to it from the list you have given us. We are so happy you are all okay.

  9. Terrific video w/lots of good information. Mom has a 3 gallon bucket w/dog & kitty emergency supplies, but that's a great idea about the kibble. And she didn't even think about a litter box... so she needs to add that to the mix. Thanks buddy!

  10. Mom is gonna make emergency pet kits for all of us. Do you include a copy of your microchip info also, or is that part of your medical records?

    1. I consider that part of my medical records, but yes, we keep the microchip number and website in there as well. Also, make sure the info for your microchip is up to date!

  11. Thanks for the video, it has helped me a great deal on what I need for my dog. I found your blog spot through searching for Sebastian. I've got all the years blogs to read but now I have I'll be an avid watcher.
